Emojis - too far or not far enough?

Emojis - too far or not far enough?

I ❤️ emojis just as much as the next guy… but CheapFlights allowing customers to use emojis to book flights is a step too far…

Emojis are a fun way to efficiently/effectively get a point across with some levity and laughs…

Point being efficient and effective. Travelers had to have booked travel to the wrong place... If your use of the emojis is interfering with the purpose or intent of the message it's not fun and no one will be laughing…

Now I am sure they had some sufficient checks in place to ensure you booked a flight to/from appropriate places but how many more people would have to flock to their site to use the emoji based travel booking to make up for the few that legitimately wanted to buy a flight and bounced out of the funnel due to confusion…

Now the novelty isn't lost on me but use it higher up in the funnel… Something like this as a landing page before getting to the purchase process.

How are you feeling!?

(Dice emoji) -> suggest trips to vegas, Atlantic City
(Sun) -> Hawaii, Florida,
Clothes/fashion -> NYC, Paris, London, etc.

Emojis should make it fun. If they add confusion, it's not fun!
